Wedding Industry Branding: Spring Cleaning Your Brand

03.21.2016 BY Something New

In case you missed our recent guest post for Once Wed + Wedding Styling 101, sharing 5 tips to refresh your brand, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! We’ll be recapping them below while we talk about wedding industry branding and the importance of keeping your brand current. After all, yesterday was the first day of spring! Could your brand use a little spring cleaning?

In our post, we offer wedding industry branding tips for both industry veterans and new wedding professionals, but this principal remains true for us all: Even though when shaping your brand, the idea is to come up with something so great that you can stick with it for years to come, it still might need to be tweaked every few years or so to remain current.

Wedding industry branding spring cleaning

Just like with spring cleaning our houses – it doesn’t matter if we want to do it or not, we can’t argue that it needs to be done. Once a year, take time to evaluate where your brand stands and determine what needs to be done to spruce it up a bit. When was the last time you updated your website? Do you need to swap out dated photos with more current ones (social media cover photos count too)?

It’s easy to let these smaller, seemingly mundane wedding industry branding tasks slip through the cracks while you’re busy actually running your business and working with clients. But, nonetheless, your brand can become stale if it sits on the backburner for too long. Start fresh by re-evaluating your ideal client, updating your service offerings and prices, and sprucing up your social media profiles. Then, to ensure you stay current, mark a quarterly review on your calendar for a little dusting off!

If your brand needs an overhaul

It’s ok to admit that your brand no longer fits your ideal client and work aesthetic. In fact, that can even be a great sign – you have successfully identified your target client and now know to best attract them with your services. And after all, even big brands undergo wedding industry branding campaigns (hello Green Wedding Shoes’ beautiful new website), and as a result are more successful than ever!

If comparing your brand to others in your space (competitors who target the same client) and you do decide you’re in need of a new logo and/or website, know that you don’t have to kiss your entire brand goodbye. Adjusting your logo – fonts, color palettes, design elements – can go a long way! For example:

5 quick tips to refresh your brand

  1. Update outdated photos on your homepage and portfolio with your most recent work.
  2. If you’ve been falling behind on Instagram (or social media in general), use a free tool like Hootsuite and spend an hour each Monday scheduling posts for the week.
  3. Update your Pinterest board cover photos with images that best represent your brand’s aesthetic.
  4. Remove your blog if it’s not being used OR create a document to drop post ideas in for future use. Writing becomes easier when you don’t have to scramble for fresh ideas.
  5. Check to see if your vendor profile information and photos are up to date on wedding listing websites.

How To Easily Boost SEO & Bring Attention To Your Wedding Brand

03.18.2016 BY Something New

SEO is no longer a foreign concept to most wedding professionals. We know how important it is to boost our ranking in search engines to book more brides. But, that being said, there is still a disconnect when it comes to measuring results. If Google Analytics and page ranks are still a bit over your head, Something New for I Do is sharing an easy way to boost SEO – and see tangible results.

Commenting on prevalent wedding blog posts and online articles from your favorite bridal publications is a great way to boost SEO and bring attention to your brand. This is especially true when it comes to building relationships with editors and writers, who you can later reach out to (with a wedding or styled shoot submission, or wedding planning insight). If they recognize you as an engaged reader, your chances of getting a positive response are higher.

Here are some tips that Something New for I Do recommends to our wedding PR clients. Feel free to tweak as you see fit and let us know how the process works for you!

4 steps to easily boost SEO through media comments

  1. Start a document with a running list of articles/blog posts to comment on (make sure there is an option to comment). Every time you see an article you want to comment on, drop it in this document (organized by date) to come back to later when you have time to comment. This is SO much easier than searching for articles to comment on all at once. If you’re looking for certain topics to comment on, or you’re wanting to build a relationship with a certain blogger or editor, you can set up Google Alerts to make finding those articles easier.
  2. Set aside one day each week to draft media comments. To do this, go through the links of the articles you’ve collected, starting with the earliest articles and moving to the more recent ones. Find 3-5 you can write responses to. Make sure you can really speak to the topic! You’re going to want to offer more than a “love this article” comment. Offer something insightful like an additional tip, anecdote of the topic from your experience, etc.
  3. Post each comment to the corresponding article/blog post. If it asks for a link to your website, don’t forget to include it. If it doesn’t, add it to the body of your comment (see below for an example). Keep in mind that you might have to login or sign up for an account to post. Sometimes comments have to be reviewed first – come back later and double check that it has been posted.
  4. I keep a spread sheet that tells me the outlet, blogger/editor name, link, when I commented, and the page rank. This way I can focus on the outlets with the best page ranks and frequently comment on certain editor’s posts to build that relationship.

Bonus tip!

You can also copy and paste your media comment to their social media post sharing that article for extra engagement!

Article: How To Get Your Groom Excited About Wedding Planning

Love these ideas Gabrielle - especially wine night + thank you notes. An idea we share with our brides who are looking to get their groom excited: try incorporating one of his loves, like a cigar or bourbon tasting station as a favor for guests. If you are assembling the favors by hand, host a get together with your bridal party for help. It will make the process fast and fun! - Sarah Chancey, founder and creative mentor behind Chancey Charm, www.ChanceyCharmWeddings.com

Thoughtful, intentional comments done over a period of time will boost SEO as this helps to naturally build links back to your website. If you have any questions or need help finding out which websites have the highest page rank, email [email protected]!

Touring Luxury Georgia Barn Wedding Venue Tolemac Farm

03.16.2016 BY Something New

It was a couple years ago that we stumbled upon this gem of a Georgia barn wedding venue. At that time, it was simply a beautiful weekend getaway location for an Atlanta family. But, as their children had reached high school, the family was no longer able to make it out to Tolemac Farm as frequently. The owners decided to open their doors to a few, select weddings each year to let others enjoy this Southern Living-worthy Georgia wedding venue.

We knew other luxury wedding professionals in Atlanta would absolutely adore this Georgia wedding venue, so we were thrilled when Marilisa Schachinger of Chancey Charm and Lauren Carnes Photography wanted to plan a styled shoot at Tolemac Farm. Marilisa designed the “Tolemac Romance” styled shoot to purposefully capture the true beauty of the venue and its amenities. From the historic southern plantation home to the rolling hills, lush pastures and crisp white barn, Something New for I Do is inviting you to tour Tolemac Farm through this styled shoot (as seen on Weddings Unveiled).

Don’t forget to view the stunning video, captured by Casto Photography & Cinema!

P.S. As some of you may or may not know, Tolemac Farm is also where our very own Kristen Ley Green hosted her Georgia barn wedding reception. Don’t worry - you will get to see her wedding photos soon, but we have to be patient as they will first have to run in an upcoming magazine feature. We can’t wait to share!

Using Styled Shoots To Make Brides Fall In Love With You

03.08.2016 BY Something New

As wedding PR professionals and venue owners, we are constantly eyeballs deep in styled shoots and real weddings. No matter how many online galleries I have combed through to compose the perfect submission, and no matter how many wedding magazines have made their way across my desk, I can always recall the photos that struck me – for better or for worse.

I remember one editorial shoot that featured a bride with a painted veil (as in white paint in her hair in place of a veil). Innovative? Sure, but I don’t think many brides who saw that photo thought, “I can pull off this wedding look!” The idea simply wasn’t practical. Vendors, I’m sure you can recall a similar styled shoot that made you feel the same way.

I think we can all agree that because weddings are (as they should be) centered around the bride’s vision and inspiration, styled shoots are the perfect way to express your creativity, your style and your unique ideas as a wedding professional. But, there comes a time when innovation can go too far. We once saw a flower crown made out of long stemmed flowers, rooted in dirt, on a bride’s head. It looked like a flower pot arrangement without the pot, stuck on top of her head!

Our question to you is this: When the purpose of a styled shoot is ultimately to enhance your portfolio, get featured for your stellar work, and also reach more potential clients in the process, shouldn’t wedding vendors be more mindful of what brides are actually looking to see? This is why we always tell our brides that styled shoots are meant for inspiration, not necessarily duplication.

To strike the perfect balance between being seen as innovative, as well as being known for cultivating beautiful wedding inspiration your clients will love, consider following these tips:

Using styled shoots to showcase your creativity and make brides fall in love with you

  • Avoid gimmicks! I hate to say it, but you don’t need a live giraffe to bring your safari wedding inspiration to fruition. As avant-garde as that big idea is that you’re planning a styled shoot around, consider instead focusing on the smaller, realistic details that together create your big idea. Remember this: brides are no longer satisfied with cookie-cutter weddings. Instead, they are going to take bits and pieces of different shoots and weddings they love and splice them together to create something unique!
  • Focus on practicality, as well as creativity. A bride might love that towering, beautiful centerpiece used in a styled shoot… until you later tell her that it’s actually impractical for her wedding because her guests won’t be able to see or talk to each other at the dinner table. It’s sort of like over promising and under-delivering. Don’t let her get her hopes up on something that, in reality, you can’t feasibly offer her for her wedding day.
  • Play with unique color combinations. One of our wedding magazine editor friends posted on Facebook today, saying, “I am one blush and gold wedding away from jumping off a bridge. Seriously people, a little creativity goes a long way.” We couldn’t agree more! Inspire brides to think outside the box, creating a wedding that is unique to them, not one that is just like everyone else’s.
  • Choose your models carefully. Chemistry and symmetry are important. Don’t just use your best friend’s boyfriend because he is available! Some of the best shoots capture an undeniable chemistry that resonates through the camera lens and makes couples see themselves on their wedding day. You won’t be able to pull it off and tell the story of your vision if you have an oddly paired and uncomfortable couple.

Something New for I Do would love to hear your ideas and tips for fellow wedding professionals in the comments!

North Georgia’s Newest Wedding Venue

03.03.2016 BY Something New

We first met Mary and Robert Stone, the owners of North Georgia’s newest wedding venue The Greystone Estate, back in 2014. With beautiful property and a big dream, we were excited to hear their thoughts for developing a wedding venue. Witnessing their vision come together and their blueprints come to life has been one of our favorite new venue projects to be a part of to date! Since last year as the finishing touches were planned, we have been patiently awaiting the opening of this elegantly rustic, lake-side Atlanta-area wedding venue. To celebrate, we teamed up to host The Greystone Estate’s first Bridal Open House!

North Georgia’s Newest Wedding Venue Celebration

It was a beautiful day, full of love, laughter, collaboration and community. Neighboring wedding venues opened their doors in support of the new venue’s opening, offering their space as a rehearsal dinner location or engagement party space.

We can’t thank Horn Photography and Design of Dahlonega, Georgia enough! We originally met Michelle and Brandon Horn, the sweetest husband and wife wedding photography duo, at The Greystone Estate’s first Bridal Show in January. We were vignette neighbors and immediately fell in love with their work and gracious spirit. They captured the venue and vendor elements of the Open House beautifully!

Something New for I Do would also like to extend a huge thank you to all of our The White List Vendors who participated! Visit them on our Vendor Page to see their special discounts, offered only through Something New for I Do’s vendor network.
